The Pillower’s 30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 6 – My Greatest Obstacles And Challenges

Hey everyone!

When I saw what today’s post topic was I thought about doing something purely deep and meaningful. Here’s the thing, the more I thought about it the more I realised that I was hungry. Then I realised my greatest obstacle and challenge goes hand in hand with each other. Not having enough food.

A lot of you might think “First world problems woman, calm down!” HOWEVER! If any of you know me you will definitely know that if I don’t have food regularly I become a monster.

Every time I start to get over emotional, freak out or cry  it always comes back to “When did Amber-Jean last eat?” It’s like I’m a newborn baby. Actually, I think I need to be fed more than my 8 month old son. He’s less needy. And cuter than I am.

This is him. I like him lots.

To keep this sweet and short, food is very important. We are meant to graze in order to keep our bodies metabolising. Having a wholesome breakfast is extremely important. A coffee and a bagel won’t cut it! Eat a banana, at least!

Take care of your bodies.

Happy Father’s Day!

Hello Readers!

For those of you in Australia, you’d know by now that it’s Father’s Day here. If you’re overseas, we celebrate our Fathers on the first Sunday in September. If that wasn’t already obvious 😊

Today will be spent being with my husband and son celebrating his first Father’s Day. This time last year I was pregnant and it didn’t count. He will be spoilt rotten with presents, pancakes for breakfast and a footy game in the afternoon while our baby sleeps.

My husband and son being nerds
My Dad who is at home in Queensland will be getting a nice little surprise that I left for him from the Noosa Chocolate Factory. Can’t go wrong with chocolate. Check out their site! Do it. The link is right there.

My Dad and I on my wedding day

Have a wonderful, Spring (or Fall for you Northerners) day!

Until next time,

The Pillower’s 30 Day Blog Challenge – Day 3 – 5 People I’d Like to Have Lunch With

 Hello Readers,

Welcome back to my blog! It’s Day 3 of the blogging challenge (in case the title didn’t give it away). 5 People I want to meet for lunch.

This list was very easy to put together. There’s lots of people that I’d want to meet for lunch but these make the top 👍

  1. My Mum – I’ve realised that it doesn’t matter how old I am but I will always need her and she is one of the first people I go to for anything and everything, any time, day or night. She has never stopped being there for me and I will cherish her forever.
  2. My Younger Self – I would love to sit down with myself for a little while and tell her that it will work out. You’ll be ok. Keep doing what you’re doing. Otherwise you won’t learn what you need to in order to be where you should be. IMG_2129
  3. My Husband – What can I say? I like spending time with the guy.  He goes alright. Plus he says I’m pretty. Which is always nice.
  4. My Nanna – This woman has missed out on seeing me get married and meeting her great grandson and I’d love the chance to tell her everything that’s been going on and that I’m happy.
  5. Sir Christopher Lee – This one isn’t soppy. He was a really, really cool dude who did lots of stuff and I think a conversation with him would be amazing.

Thank y’all for reading and I’ll be back tomorrow!

Have a beautiful day!

The Pillower’s 30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 2 – Ways to Win My Heart

Healthy&Handmade gave me the idea for this blogging challenge when she posted it on July. Cheers Chelsea! x
I’ve already blogged about the greatest lessons I’ve learned so I thought I’d skip straight to Day 2 – ways to win my heart.

If you follow my blog, you’ll know by now that I am married. So someone has clearly won my heart. Well done husband! I won’t give you all the gory details on how he managed to get me to marry him. That’s a whole story on its own.

Having said this, just because I am happily married doesn’t mean that he gets off the hook with being romantic. As people we will be forever changing and evolving so we need to keep flame going.

There’s 3 main ways to win my heart. And they are..

  1. Be a fantastic kisser – Yup. Straight up. If you’re not a great kisser that makes me feel like there’s fireworks all around us and a marching band on speed in my heart then you can hit the road. No one likes a dead fish flopping around in their mouth. No one!
  2. Show me a good time – Dates with me to win my heart don’t have to be something out of a movie. Who has that kind of budget? Take me somewhere original. Keep it simple, keep it sweet. Like, for example, getting take away fish and chips and eating them on a secluded rock overlooking the ocean(a little nod to something that my husband did while we were dating).
  3. Have good morals – Simply put, be a decent person. Look out for other people and animals. A kind heart goes a long way.  Don’t act like you’re all into me then secretly steal my ATM card and withdraw money from my account. That’s not ok. NOT OK. Don’t litter. That’s bad too. Pretty much if you take care of yourself, other people and the environment (to some degree) and you’re not a criminal, you’re doing alright in my book.

Keeping it short and sweet today so that’s a wrap.

Check in tomorrow for ‘5 people I want to meet for lunch’

Have a beautiful day!

How To Get To Work On Time

It’s that time of the week again. How To Tuesday! Even though the title says “get to work on time” the suggestions can really be used for any event that calls for you to be somewhere at a particular time.

Take it from someone who was constantly short cutting in the morning (breakfast, hair washing etc) speeding to get to the train and then bolting across a park to make it on time. By the time I sat down I was out of breath and needed a nap.

Once I moved to Darwin and started to become an adult, I realised that no one will do anything for me so I needed to step it up a bit more. After having my baby I really realised how nice it was to have things in order and the importance of routine. Without a routine, my life, my house and everything around me was chaotic! I then had an “ah-ha” moment and remembered a boss of mine once told me “Piss poor preparation leads to piss poor performance” and boy wasn’t that the truth! Without preparation, I always found I was two steps behind.

Here’s the bit you’ve been waiting for…

  1. Prepare your gear – Get everything together the night before. Even if you’re super tired. Do it. You will be thanking yourself in the morning.
  2. Choose your outfit – If you have issues deciding what to wear in the morning and it takes an hour to look good, choose an outfit in the morning that could have one or two pieces that can easily be changed if you are having an issue with it in the morning. For those of you worker bees that wear a uniform, make sure it’s washed and ironed and all the pieces are there so you’re not running around in the morning. My husband is a military man and they have lots of pieces to their uniforms, if he can do it, so can you.
  3. Find your food – Take your food to work? Love your acai breakfast mason jar? Get it all ready the night before and out your car keys with it. Or your work ID. You won’t forget it then. This would be a good time to organise any other little extra bits like vitamins or tablets that you need to take. Portion them out so you won’t forget to take them.
  4. Discover your beauty – The last you want in the morning is to wish that you had more time for your hair or make up or shaving your legs. When you’ve got some spare time, experiment with hairstyles that look good but take very little time. I love braids! It took me a while to perfect them but it’s fashionable to have them messy so it’s ok. They’re a great way to hide unwashed hair after 2-3 days. Otherwise, spray the sh*t out of it with Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair Dry Shampoo (or whichever you prefer) Use YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram to research quick and easy make up tutorials to make you look away and lively. I recommend watching Lauren Curtis for her ‘Work/Office Makeup Tutorial’ or ‘Sheets to Streets’.
  5. Direct Route – Test out the best routes to work or public transport timetables to make sure that you have the easiest, quickest way to get to work (or wherever) on time. Remember to allow for traffic and incidents.

That’s pretty much it. It took me a number of years to do these things but it helped so much. Hope it helps you too.

Have a great day!

Ever since the beginning of smart phones, tablets etc were around I think I jumped into pretty deep water with the whole app thing. Always having things recommended to me and downloading whatever looked good.

Over the years I’ve slowly dwindled down the list, added and removed and mourned the loss of apps no longer available.

I feel like whenever I pick my phone up I’m constantly going from app to app and checking what’s going on in the world. Each time I see one of my friends or talk to my husband it’s “Have you heard about this app?” I swear all I talk about is my son, food and apps. Is that such a bad existence? It may be a bit boring for those around me though. Sorry y’all.

As you may know, I’m all about lists, so, here are my top 5 apps and why.

1. Instagram

I probably don’t really need to explain this one BUT I will anyway. I love, love, love Instagram. It is so much fun. It’s the easiest way to share what’s going on in your life by taking cute pics or creating word art. Instagram is quick and snappy and a great way to follow anyone you like (without being a stalker) 👍

2. A Beautiful Mess

I have only recently come across A Beautiful Mess but it is SO MUCH FUN!

Very easy to use. You can edit photos, create collages, put in emojis, borders, text. It really feels endless. And then they get saved straight to your camera roll OR you can share them directly to your favourite social media apps (like Instagram!) I spend a lot of time using A Beautiful Mess.

3. Stocard

Another one that I’ve only recently stumbled across. If you’re the kind of person that says yes every single time a sales assistant asks “Do you have a loyalty card?” Then this is a MUST HAVE app for you.  A handy dandy place for all your loyalty cards.

It can take a little bit of time to add in all your cards but it all depends on how many store loyalty cards you have. Once this is done, it’s super easy to use, doesn’t bulk up your purse AND it tells you offers and gives you an option to view the current catalogue. Winning!

4. Enlight

Enlight is another app that allows you to edit and create fun types of photos but I feel like this one has a bit more choice rather than just your standard edit with filters type of deal. Not that I don’t like the ease of that because I totally do.

You can also get totally pro with it and adjust light, contrast, shadow, exposure etc levels.

5. Ovia

This one is a little girly, of course, but it is very helpful if you use it properly. This app is super detailed to help you track ovulation, diet, weight, vitamins, moods and the list goes on. The app also reminds you to enter your details about the day and sends you an email with a report as well. These notifications can be turned off but if you’re rather forgetful, leave them on and you’ll never leave a day without a data entry.  I found this helped heaps when I was getting back on track after having Curtis and I know it’ll help when my husband and I decide to have another baby.
Let me know what kind of apps you like using. Either comment on this post (click the title and comment below) or follow me on Instagram and comment. Don’t forget to use the #handmadefromtheheart

Have a wonderful weekend!
